Configure AutoDM triggers & keywords

Set the right trigger, keywords and reply so the correct DM goes out every time.

4 min read

An AutoDM has three parts: a trigger (what starts it), match rules (which words count), and the reply. Getting these right is the difference between a smooth funnel and missed leads.

Before you start

  • A connected Professional Instagram account.
  • AutoDM app enabled from Explore All Apps.
1

Pick the trigger type

Choose what fires the DM — a comment on a post/Reel, a story reply, or any new DM. For comment triggers you can target a specific post or all posts.

2

Set keyword match rules

Add the keywords (e.g. “price”, “link”). Choose “exact” to match only that word, or “contains” to match any message that includes it. Add a few variations to catch typos.

Set keyword match rules

Use “contains” for broad capture, “exact” when a keyword could clash with normal conversation.

3

Write the reply (and a button)

Compose the DM. Add a button with your link so the user taps straight through. Keep the first line short — it shows in the notification preview.

Test, then turn it on

Save and toggle the automation Active. Comment the keyword from another account to confirm the DM arrives as expected.
