How to Sell Event Tickets on Instagram in India (2026)
By Megha Gaur · 14 October 2026 · 3 min read
Most workshops, meetups, comedy nights and fitness bootcamps in India are discovered on Instagram. But the ticketing usually happens somewhere else: a Google Form, a UPI screenshot in the DMs, a spreadsheet of names and a printed list at the door. That works for 20 people. At 200, it breaks — payments get missed, people forward screenshots, and the entrance turns into a queue.
This guide shows how to run the whole thing from Instagram: one link to sell, automatic QR tickets, a phone scanner at the door, and the money in your own bank account.
What you need before you start
- An Instagram creator or business account — where your audience already is.
- Your event details: title, date(s), venue, price and how many seats you have.
- A bank account to receive payouts.
- About 10 minutes.
Step 1 — Create the event
In DMGO, create a new event and add the title, date, venue, price and capacity. It takes about two minutes. Running a multi-day event? Set a separate price and capacity for each day, so buyers can pick the day they want. Capacity matters: once a day sells out, nobody can buy a seat you don’t have.
Step 2 — Share one buy link everywhere
Every event gets a clean, branded buy page. Put that one link everywhere your audience is:
- In your Instagram bio, or as a button on your bio link page.
- In your stories with a link sticker.
- In your WhatsApp status and groups.
- On posters, as a QR code.
Buyers pay through Razorpay — UPI, cards or net banking — and instantly receive their ticket. You don’t send anything by hand.
Step 3 — Let your reels sell with comment-to-DM
This is where Instagram beats every other channel. Instead of “link in bio”, end your event reel with a keyword call to action:
Comment TICKET and I’ll DM you the link.
With DMGO’s comment-to-DM automation, everyone who comments the keyword gets the buy link in their DMs within seconds — even at 2 a.m. Every comment also signals to Instagram that the reel is worth showing to more people, so the post that sells tickets is also the post that grows your reach. Add a follow-gate and people follow you before the link arrives, so this event builds the audience for your next one.
Step 4 — Every buyer gets a unique QR ticket
The moment a payment succeeds, the buyer gets a QR ticket with its own ticket number. No spreadsheets, no “please send your payment screenshot” messages, and no two people sharing one ticket.
Step 5 — Scan at the door with any phone
Add your door volunteers as ticket checkers using their email. They get a phone-only scanning screen — no access to your dashboard, revenue or customer list. At the entrance:
- The checker scans the attendee’s QR code.
- Green means valid — let them in.
- Each ticket works once. If someone tries to reuse a forwarded screenshot, the double-scan guard catches it.
There is no app to install, and it works on any phone.
Step 6 — Watch sales and check-ins live
The event dashboard shows tickets sold, revenue, checked-in vs. no-shows, and a per-day breakdown while the event is running. After the event you already know who actually came — useful when you announce the next one.
What does it cost?
Creating an event and selling tickets is free to start. DMGO keeps a small platform fee only when you sell, and the fee drops as your plan goes up — down to 0% on the top plan. Money settles to your own bank account through Razorpay; it is not held until the event ends. Current numbers are on the pricing page.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Collecting payments by UPI screenshot. Impossible to reconcile at scale and easy to fake.
- No capacity limit. Overselling a venue is the fastest way to lose trust.
- One generic “link in bio” post. A keyword comment-to-DM reel converts far better than asking people to visit your profile.
- Giving door volunteers your main login. Use checker access so they can only scan.
Quick checklist
- Event created with date, venue, price and capacity.
- Buy link in your bio, stories and WhatsApp.
- A reel with a “comment TICKET” call to action and comment-to-DM set up.
- Ticket checkers added by email.
- A test scan done before the doors open.
