How to Write Instagram Reel Captions in Hinglish (with AI)
By Megha Gaur · 14 October 2026 · 3 min read
Most Indian creators speak Hinglish in their reels — and then write a stiff English caption underneath, or copy one from a generic AI tool that has no idea what the reel said. The result is a caption that doesn’t sound like you and doesn’t get people to comment, save or share.
A good caption does three jobs: it hooks the reader, adds context the video couldn’t, and tells them what to do next. Here is how to write captions that do all three — by hand or with AI.
Why Hinglish captions work
- It’s how your audience talks. A caption in the same language as the reel feels like part of the conversation, not an ad.
- It matches the audio. When the caption repeats the key line from your reel, people watching on mute still get the point.
- It feels personal. “Bhai, ye mistake mat karna” stops the scroll faster than “Avoid this common mistake”.
The 4-line caption formula
- Hook (line 1) — the one sentence that makes people tap “more”. Pull it from the strongest line in your reel.
- Value (2–3 short lines) — the takeaway, the steps or the story, in plain Hinglish.
- Call to action — one clear ask: comment a keyword, save it, or share it with a friend.
- Hashtags — a few relevant ones, not 30 random tags.
Example: a fitness coach’s morning-routine reel
Subah 10 minute mein poora body active — bina gym ke 🔥 Ye 4 moves roz karo, 2 hafte mein energy ka fark khud feel hoga. Neeche ROUTINE comment karo, poora plan DM kar dunga. #homeworkout #fitnessindia #morningroutine
Notice the call to action: “comment ROUTINE”. Paired with comment-to-DM automation, every comment gets the plan in DMs automatically — and every comment also tells Instagram the reel is worth showing to more people.
Hashtag tips that still matter
- Use a handful of specific tags (niche + location + topic) rather than the biggest generic ones.
- Match tags to what the reel is actually about.
- Don’t paste the exact same block on every post.
Doing it with AI: Lyra by DMGO
Generic AI caption tools only see what you type into them. Lyra, DMGO’s AI writer for Instagram, works from your own reels instead:
- Listens to your reel’s audio, so the caption matches what you said in it.
- Writes in Hinglish by default, with Indian context — and adds hashtags.
- Rewrites your Instagram bio in the same voice.
- Builds a growth report for your account (one fresh report a week).
How to use it
- Connect your Instagram creator or business account to DMGO.
- Open Lyra and pick a reel.
- Get a caption and hashtags, edit anything you want, and post.
What it costs
Every Instagram account gets 150 free credits once to try it. A reel caption costs 40 credits per minute of reel (minimum 15), a bio rewrite costs 10 credits, and a report costs 100 credits. More credits come in packs starting at ₹49, and some DMGO plans include monthly credits.
Mistakes to avoid
- A caption that ignores the reel. If the video says one thing and the caption another, viewers drop off.
- No call to action. A reel without an ask leaves comments and DMs on the table.
- A wall of text. Short lines and line breaks are easier to read on a phone.
- Pasting AI text without reading it. Always do a quick edit so it sounds like you.
